In 1997 I started ScreenStyle.com with just one product, a Microsoft-Word based template called ScreenStyle. It cost $29.95.
I sold it through those little classified ads you see in the back of magazines such as Writer's Digest and Creative Screenwriting. There was no website.
If you wanted to buy it, you had to send me a check to my PO box in Minneapolis. I would then copy the program onto a 3.5" floppy disk and send it out with instructions I printed at Kinko's.

Hundreds of writers purchased ScreenStyle this way. When the University of Texas Film School sent a check for 50 copies of ScreenStyle, I knew we had a business. Unfortunately, ScreenStyle was based on Microsoft Word and had a lot of limitations. (Remember, this was 1997.)

In 1998, we built one of the first websites for screenwriters and started selling Final Draft, Movie Magic Screenwriter, and other essential products for screenwriters and filmmakers.
Since that day, we have sold over 15,000 copies of Final Draft and Movie Magic Screenwriter. We are one of the top sellers in the world.

In 2002, I moved ScreenStyle from Minneapolis to New York City. We've found a home in Tribeca in space formerly occupied by Miramax Studios. We're not sure if we sit in the same chairs once occupied by Spike Lee or Quentin Tarantino, but we feel it's good karma.

We've also produced the Hero's 2 Journeys DVD series which just happens to be one of the best-selling DVDs on screenwriting. The Hero's 2 Journeys stars Michael Hauge, author of Writing Screenplays that Sell, and Chris Vogler, author of The Writer's Journey. We think it's great and we know thousands of screenwriters agree.
